‘Ooh la la’ girl in demand for stage performances

‘The Dirty Picture’ has turned out to be a major milestone in Vidya Balan’s career as the movie has suddenly turned Vidya from mature actress to a glamorous and sexy one. Though Vidya has always been the critic’s favourite owing to her crisp performances, but she had never been considered as a hot and demanded actress for events and stage shows. However, the actress has suddenly become a much sought after actress by event organisers, who are now offering her Rs 50 to 75 lakh to perform at shows. Vidya is also being asked for performances in award shows. Apart from being approached to perform on the ‘Ooh la la’ and ‘Naaka mukka’ tracks, she’s also being offered a handsome fee, averaging to about Rs 50 lakh per event.

Talking about sudden increase in demand for Vidya’s performances, Mohammed Morani, one of the top event organisers says, “A chartbusting song and a super hit film is what is required of a star for the award functions.”

However, Morani refuses to talk about money being offered to her. Instead, he said, “Vidya is getting good money.”

Ameesha Patel to play a high-profile prostitute for David Dhawan

Actress Ameesha Patel is surely playing her cards well in the second innings of her career. Her image transformation into a sexy bombshell in her last release ‘Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic’ failed to impress the audience but the actress has lots of promising projects in store for the year 2012.

She’s working on Shortcut Romeo opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh, second schedule of Race 2, and Bhaiyyaji Superhit with Sunny Deol, both of which are to start soon. Now, the actress has landed up with yet another plum role.

She has reportedly been signed up by David Dhawan for his next where Ameesha is requires to play a role of a high-profile prostitute in Prague. This will be first of its kind for Ameesha. The film will go on the floors by April this year and David wants Ameesha to spend at least 15 days to imbibe the energy of Parisians and understand their way of life. Ameesha also confirmed the news saying, “It’s a first for me. And yes, I am really excited to test the waters by playing the role of a high-profile Indian prostitute in Paris.’

The film is being produced by Ameesha Patel Productions. Her business partner Kuunal Goomer adds, “Davidji is in Goa currently shooting for Chashmebaddoor and also preparing for his son’s wedding there. Once done, we are geared to roll by April. The film is a romantic thriller with good comedy and suspense as well. We will shoot Ameesha with real Parisian hookers on the streets there. The effect will be magical.”

Priyadarshan and Deepika Padukone finally patch up

Priyadarshan happens to one of the senior most directors of our film industry who has as many as 83 films to his credit in his 30-year career. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone is comparatively new to the industry but has managed to carve a niche for her own with her hard work, beauty and of course, talent.

However, the two have never done a film together owing to the spat they has five years ago when Deepika chose to make her debut with Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ instead of Priyadarshan’s project ‘Pirates’ which was based on the subject of music piracy. The film was supposed to feature Deepika with four other newcomers playing part of a music band.

It was only in 2008, that the two broke the ice when SRK persuaded Deepika to feature in the item song for Priyadarshan’s ‘Billu Barber’. Now, the director is finally set on a project with Deepika. The film is a family comedy with the Ashtavinayak production house. The film has Abhishek Bachchan as the male lead and again, this will be the first time that Priyadarshan will work with Abhishek.

Says Priyadarshan happily, “We broke the ice during the song in Billu. Now I’ve a role just right for her. ”

“Abhishek and I have been planning projects together for the longest time. We were supposed to do a bio-pic on Chandrashekhar Azad. But who watches historicals any more? I’ve finally zeroed in on the perfect project for Abhishek. We start shooting in July, ” he added.

Rajkumar Santoshi to pair up Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor

Rajkumar Santoshi is set to start a film with the novel pairing of Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor. The film will be a romantic comedy and Santoshi maintains that it has in no way any links with his superhit ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. The film goes on floors from Feb 1.

Giving in more details about the film, Santoshi says, “It’s in the same creative space as my Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Abhay and Sonam would be captured in a comedy of errors like Ranbir and Katrina, though this is a completely different script and has no bearing on Ajab Prem…”

Santoshi goes a long way in bonding with the lead actors’ parents. While he shares a great rapport with Anil Kapoor since ‘Lajja’, his association with the Deola also goes a long way back. The film will be produced by Santoshi and the cinematography will be done by the ace-cameraman Ravi K Chandran.

Salman Khan intends to return with the next season of Big Boss

Even as the fifth season of Big Boss ends with Juhi Parmar emerging as the winner amidst much glamour, glitter and performances, the co-host Salman Khan expresses his intention to return with the next season of Big Boss. On the Bigg Boss 5 sets at Karjat, the actor said that he would love to return for the next season of the show.

“It’s still a couple of months away. I don’t know what the channel is thinking. But I love this show. And if they really want me back, I will make time for them,” he said.

His co-host Sanjay Dutt, however, doesn’t sound as confident about returning to the show that launched him on the small screen “I have my options open. This show made me realise the kind of audience connect TV has. And I’d like to connect with the viewers again, even if it’s not through this show.”

Shaurya Chauhan promotes ‘Sadda Adda’ in a bikini

Well, this is an age when the promotion of the film counts more than its making and the bikini girl Shaurya Chauhan has done what she is best at to promote her forthcoming flick, ‘Sadda Adda’. She did a hot photshoot wearing bright designer swimsuits and with the name of the film inked above her chest.

Shaurya Chauhan has already garnered much attention as a Kingfisher girl. Now, she is ready with her Bollywood debut ‘Sadda Adda’ which is about six boys who are from different states and have come together to share a two BHK apartment in a middle-class colony in Delhi, which they lovingly call “Sadda Adda”. Shilpa Shetty makes her first appearance post pregnancy

Bollywood has been sending heartiest wishes to long legged beauty Shilpa Shetty ever since she broke the news of her pregnancy on a social networking site. Since she has a miscarriage last time, she is being extra cautious with this one and made her first public appearance post her pregnancy at the Lohri party of her business partner and good friend Kiran Bawa. Not to mention here that Shilpa looked gorgeous as ever in a traditional anarkali suit sporting her baby bump. Hubby Raj Kundra was by her side all the time and the couple, at present, are busy making preparations for the oncoming addition to their family as well as for the major business expansions they are planning.

Shilpa is in her second trimester of pregnancy but she looked very comfortable and made no attempt to hide her bump with the dupatta, unlike Aishwarya who always made it sure to cover her baby bump during her pregnancy. Check out Shilpa Shetty exuding radiance at the Lohri celebrations….

2011's Special Moments in Hindi Cinema

In last year's Ishqiya, she played a seductive woman who holds her cards close to her and then makes her choice between the two men, who are in love with her.

This year, Vidya went far beyond in the otherwise flawed The Dirty Picture, throwing herself into the role of southern siran Silk Smitha with much oomph and joy. To add to that, Balan put on substantial weight for the role, letting her belly hang and then wear tight low cut blouses to reveal her cleavage.

2011's Ten Most Googled Films in India

As part of its Zeitgist survey for top searches in the year 2011, Google released the list of the most searched movies in India.

Here's looking at the movies that made it to the list:

1. Bodyguard

Just like the poster indicates, Salman Khan was everywhere this year making his legions of fans swoon with not one but two blockbusters.

But Bodyguard was in a league of its own. With over Rs 150 crore in box office collections, the film earned the distinction of becoming the highest opener of all time across India.

No wonder then, that the film was also the most searched film in India.

Zoya Akhtar's buddy film made headlines for it's theme and a fresh treatment.

Beautful places, beautiful faces and a bright message, coaxing young people to live in the moment sealed the deal for this one.

Are Katrina, Kareena stylish? Vote!

Bollywood stars are a fashionable lot. Sometimes, they look straight out of the fashion magazines but just that once in a while, they get it wrong. We decided to play fashion police, and take a closer look at how celebs stepped out last week.

Miss Meh?

For someone as attractive as herself, Katrina Kaif is one helluva boring dresser. Ranging from borderline frumpy to yawn-inducing ordinary, her outfits leave a lot to be desired.

The actress attended former beau Salman Khan's family bash on Sunday in this highly confusing dress.

Is it a sarong worn over a sheer swimsuit? Was she headed to a live performance straight after the party?

Go figure.

Kareena Kapoor was present at the Big Star awards in a Namrata Joshipura black dress.

Even though the actress is looking her sexiest ever, having finally let go of the size zero fad, her pose struck as rather odd.

Atif Aslam: I don't see Himesh as a competitor

Sahara One Television is all set to bring India and Pakistan together as they launch a new singing reality show Sur-Kshetra. The show will provide a platform for upcoming singers from India and Pakistan to showcase their talents.

Singers-turned-actors Himesh Reshammiya and Atif Aslam will captain the India and Pakistan teams of singers respectively. They are also going to judge the show.

Atif was recently in town to launch the show wher he spoke about the show and what it hopes to achieve.

There are a lot of reality singing shows. How is Sur-Kshetra going to be different?

This show is different because artists from both Pakistan and India are going to share the same platform. There will be a lot of cultural exchange and the Indian audience will come to know about Pakistan culture.

Also, the songs will be performed in a different manner, so it is going to be very interesting.

I will try to introduce contemporary music in the show. A lot of singers have tried it in Bollywood and other shows that have happened earlier, but I would like to present it in its true form and in a different manner.

Why did you decide to be a part of the show?

I want to get up close and personal with the audience. My fans and audiences have wanted to see me on television for a long time so I decided that this is a good platform.

I just hope that the show is not scripted.

Himesh Reshammiya is going to co-host the show. Professionally, do you see him as a competitor?

No, I don't see him as a competitor. I am a normal person and this show is all about friendship between the two nations and I don't believe in competition.

But since it's a reality show there will be some competition.

Competition should be there or else there won't be any entertainment for the participants, judges, and the audience.

In the past, we have seen celebrity judges fighting with each other. Can we expect it to happen again?

If there are any issues or comments with respect to the sentiments of the contestants, or religion, or the nation, and if they are worth a debate or a fight, then we will have a fight as everyone will want to have their say.

A lot of Pakistani singers like Ali Zafar and Rahet Fateh Ali Khan, and actors like Veena Malik are making their mark in India. How do you look at this?

It feels good that a lot of people from Pakistan have had a good experience in India. I have known Ali since a long time. He has been a good friend and I am happy that he is doing so well. He is a fabulous actor. Rahetsaab is a class apart.

You recently made your debut as an actor in a Pakistani film. Have you got any offers from Bollywood?

I have got a lot of offers but I am looking for an interesting script. If I get an interesting script, I will surely do it. I just don't want to do cliche films.

Who has been your inspiration?

I am not inspired by anyone. I don't have any idol. I just follow the people around me and try and learn a few things.

Any plans to get married soon?

It will surely happen but I cannot predict when (smiles).

'Shooting for new channel for Star called LifeOK. On location on Madh Island. Hope u like it!' she tweeted.

Ram Gopal Varma, who had reportedly shot an item number with Madhu Shalini for Department, denied shooting for a song and that she is replaced by a Brazilian model for the song.

'Don't kno whr mindless media speculation wil end..time ago m mirror said I alrdy shot a 1cr sng wth madhu shalini nd nw sy she's bn replaced. whether thy hv a short term memory or thy think ppl hv a short term memory they go on filling contradictory things to fill their pages,' he tweeted.

Mallika Sherawat is not going to narrow down her options when it comes to Mr Right.

Mallika's father was recently quoted as saying that she will only marry a Haryanvi. But when a fan asked the actress about it, she tweeted: 'Its NOT true :)'

Dam 999 goes to the Oscars

Three songs from Dam 999, which triggered a political storm between Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the Mullaperiyar Dam, are competing with 36 other tracks in Oscar's Original Song category.

The songs Dakkanaga Dugu Dugu, DAM 999 Theme Song and Mujhe Chod Ke are in the Academy Award's long list of likely candidates to get nominated in this category.

The songs are penned by director Sohan Roy and composed by Indian music director Ousephachan, a well known name in Malayalam cinema.

First Look: Mammootty's Cobra

Malayalam actors Mammootty and Lal play non-identical twins in Cobra. The shooting is currently on in Chalakudy, a small town in Kerela.

Lal has also scripted the film and is directing Mammootty for the first time. Padmapriya [ Images ] and Kaniha are the heroines.

Cobra is a comedy of siblings, who are very close to each other. The title of the film is a short form, in Malayalam, for Kuala Lumpur Brothers and that was where they were born.

Now, they want to associate with everything that begins with 'Ko', be it Coimbatore, Kozhikode or Kottayam!

Lalu Alex, Maniyanpillai Raju, Salim Kumar and Suresh Krishna also star in the film. The shooting will be completed in two schedules in Kochi and Bangkok.

Cobra is being produced by Anto Joseph, with camerawork by Venu and Alex Paul as music director.

Meenakshi Dixit joins the cast of Billa 2

With the number of glam dolls featured in the Tamil film increasing, Billa 2 may well be on its way to become a James Bond-esque film.

Meenakshi Dixit, who did a dance number with Mahesh Babu  in Dookudu, is the newest entrant in the film with Ajith.

Parvathy Omanakuttan , the first runner-up at the Miss World 2008 competition, replaced the original choice, Huma Quereshi, and became Ajith's heroine in the film.

Chakri Toleti, the director of Kamal Haasan-Mohanlal starrer Unnaipol Oruvan (remake of A Wednesday) is the director of Billa 2.

The film is produced by IN Entertainment (India ) Limited along with Wide Angle Creations, the production house led by Suresh Balajee and George Pius.

The late Balajee was the producer of the original Billa, but his son Suresh, himself a producer, gave the permission to another producer to remake it with Ajith as the hero, in 2007
